Conservative legal experts are responding forcefully to Hillary Clinton's ridiculous remark on how the Supreme Court is in a "right wing headlock" during her speech to the Democratic National Convention last night. Below is a link to an item posted on NationalReview.com featuring reaction.
Ed Whelan (speaking for himself), president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, former law clerk for Justice Antonin Scalia, and former counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee: "What Clinton really opposes is the prospect of a Court that abandons the stranglehold of liberal judicial activism and that gives free play to the broad rights of American citizens to make policy decisions through their legislators."
Wendy Long, chief counsel to the Judicial Confirmation Network and former law clerk for Justice Clarence Thomas: "Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden are so liberal that they refuse to acknowledge the current Supreme Court is still frequently a liberal, activist Court, which has overturned a child rape law and granted rights to terrorists. We need more Justices like Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito, who are faithful to our Consitution and practice judicial restraint. Clinton, Obama, and Biden all voted against these Justices. They want the U.S. Supreme Court in a permanent left-wing, liberal headlock."
