Statement by Wendy E. Long:
"The liberal left's advertising campaign to sell filibusters of the President's judicial nominees to the American people is a sham. It's a blatant effort to usurp the will of the American people, evade the Constitution, and improperly control our independent judiciary. The filibuster has a long tradition in the legislative process of the United States Senate. But the use of the filibuster to block qualified nominees from becoming federal judges is unprecedented and without warrant. The American people, by overwhelming majority of 82%, have recently said that well-qualified nominees for our federal courts deserve a vote up or down on the floor of the Senate. They see these tactics for what they are: politically motivated and unfair. The American people and these highly qualified and distinguished candidates deserve a fair vote by the Senate.
"The Judicial Confirmation Network is marshalling its resources to respond to these ads with a message that will remind Senators to do their jobs and bring these well qualified candidates to the Senate floor for a vote."
Statement by Gary Marx:
"JCN is mobilizing grassroots support via the Internet and in nearly a dozen states as we work with individual citizens, civic leaders, business and economic groups and social conservative organizations, preparing them to engage in what has become a national debate over the treatment of the President's judicial nominees. JCN is partnering with more than seventy grassroots organizations around the country to bring attention to these blatantly partisan and personal attacks waged by the left against these qualified candidates."
