"The Gang of 14 is gradually reverting to being just 14 of 100 Senators, which is a good sign. The qualifications issue is off the table, as everyone acknowledges that Judge Alito is extraodinarily qualified. The attacks on him appear to be either character assassination or liberal extremist dissatisfaction that his decisions don't comport with their results-oriented, liberal policy agenda. Those don't provide a basis to claim 'extraordinary circumstances' that will pass muster with mainstream America."
"Senators need to do their jobs and give this extraodinarily qualified judge a prompt and fair hearing and a vote in 2005. To delay this until next year is unfair to the Judge, creates an unnecessary burden on the Supreme Court in handling the transition from Justice O'Connor, and is based on pure partisan politics."
