COMMENTS RE HOWARD DEAN

September 28, 2005

Wendy E. Long, counsel to The Judicial Confirmation Network (www.judicialnetwork.com), today commented on statements by Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean threatening a filibuster of President Bush's next nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court:

"Howard Dean, the leader of the Democrat Party, today issued orders to Democrat Senators to block whomever President Bush nominates as the next Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, if that nominee shares the President's judicial philosophy of judicial restraint and faithfulness to the Constitution.

"Howard Dean has an extremist, hard-core liberal left following, including George Soros, Norman Lear, Ralph Neas, and the New York Hollywood axis who are furious that they could not stop John Roberts from becoming the next Chief Justice of the United States. So Dean has now stepped out in front as the ringmaster in the U.S. Senate.

"But the strong-arm partisan tactics of blocking a Supreme Court nominee from even getting a vote on the Senate floor has never before been used in the history of our country. And the American people have said overwhelmingly that they want a fair and dignified judicial confirmation process. They want Senators to do their jobs in evaluating and voting on nominees to the United States Supreme Court, even if Howard Dean is screaming otherwise at the top of his lungs."
