Judicial Confirmation Network counsel Wendy E. Long made the following comments this afternoon:
"Today's testimony showed once again the difference between partisan liberal extremists, like Senators Biden, Feinstein, and Kennedy, and mainstream judicial conservatives like Judge Roberts. The extreme liberal ideologues on the Judiciary Committee continue to demand that Judge Roberts pledge allegiance to their liberal political agenda in order to gain their support. But as Judge Roberts has said repeatedly, he is not a candidate for political office, and he will not cave in to their demands to compromise the independence of the Supreme Court and the integrity of our judicial system. Fortunately, Judge Roberts doesn't need their support to be confirmed. But Senator Biden and others need a lesson in American civics. Judges under our Constitution do not stand for election, as Senators do, and Americans who are not Democrat members of the Judiciary Committee appreciate this fact."
