Judicial Confirmation Network Releases Second Ad

July 18, 2005

Washington, D.C. -- Judicial Confirmation Network today released the second in a series of advertisements to highlight recent decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court that have "effectively and illegitimately rewritten the Constitution," said JCN legal counsel Wendy E. Long.

The ad, the second in an Internet series entitled "America Deserves Better," focuses on the Supreme Court's improper use of foreign and international law to displace the U.S. Constitution as the ultimate legal authority for deciding recent cases. The text of the "Foreign Opinion" ad is listed below.

The first ad, released July 11, describes the recent decision in which the Court allowed New London, Connecticut to seize the private homes of local citizens and turn them over to developers to build office complexes and shopping malls in order to generate higher tax revenues for the city.

Long said that the ads "highlight bad decisions made by a liberal majority on the Court, then a quote from Justice Scalia or Justice Thomas about the constitutional error that the liberal majority has made."

Each ad concludes with the theme, "America Deserves Better," which Long said points to "President Bush's promise that any nominee he selects for the Supreme Court will be someone of outstanding intellect, experience, integrity, and faithfulness to the Constitution, in the mold of Justices Scalia and Thomas."

JCN is coordinating the Internet launch with its 70 coalition members to reach over 10 million activist citizens who are members of those groups.

In addition, JCN is purchasing "banner" ads on websites such as The Drudge Report, Rush Limbaugh, National Review, The Weekly Standard, The Washington Times, and The Washington Post. The Judicial Confirmation Network is an organization of citizens joined to support the confirmation of highly qualified judges and Justices. In addition, JCN works to ensure that the confirmation process for all judicial nominees is fair and that every nominee sent to the full Senate receives an up or down vote.

Text of Foreign Opinion ad:

"We the People of the United States. . ."

More than 200 years ago, we liberated ourselves from European monarchy and won our freedom.

Freedom to govern ourselves -- under our own Constitution.

Today, our Constitution is still sacred to us.

But liberals on our Supreme Court are deciding some cases based on international and foreign law, instead of the American Constitution.

Justice Antonin Scalia has opposed such rulings, saying: "Acknowledgement of foreign approval has no place in the legal opinion of this Court...."

But it's no surprise. Our rights have been steadily chipped away for years.

President Bush has promised to appoint Supreme Court Justices who will respect our rights and be faithful to OUR Constitution.

Because America deserves better.
